Troubleshooting

Your agent sounds robotic or awkward

Your agent should sound like a friendly Australian receptionist. When it doesn't, the cause is usually the voice you picked or a greeting that reads like a letter. Both are quick to change.

What you're seeing

  • The voice sounds flat, too formal or wrong for your business.
  • The greeting sounds stiff or goes on too long.
  • Callers complain about pauses, or about being talked over.

Check these in order

  1. Hear it the way your callers do

Ring your Lightspire number from another phone and listen to the whole call. Then open Calls and play back a few real calls. Note exactly where it sounds wrong: the voice, the greeting, or the back-and-forth.

A browser test on the Test call tab of the Agent page doesn't use talking time. Ringing your number does.

If that fixed it, you're done.

  2. Try another voice

Open Agent, then Voice and greeting, and listen to each Voice. There are five, all Australian:

    Voice Sounds
Bronte Bright and trustworthy. The all-rounder.
Grace Polished and professional. Suits clinics and firms.
Aila Calm and unhurried. Puts anxious callers at ease.
Arlo Friendly and mid-toned. Good for trades.
Fraser Clear and articulate. Sounds like a front desk.

Pick one and press Save changes. The next call uses it.

If that fixed it, you're done.

  3. Make the greeting short and spoken

Read your Greeting out loud. If you wouldn't say it that way on the phone, rewrite it. One short sentence and a question works best, for example "Thanks for calling Northside Plumbing, this is Mia. How can I help?" Or clear the box to use the default.

"Calls are recorded." is always added before the question, so you don't need to write it.

If that fixed it, you're done.

  4. Try the background office sound

On Voice and greeting, Background office sound plays quiet office sounds behind your agent. Some owners find it sounds more natural on; others prefer silence. Try both with a test call.

If that fixed it, you're done.

  5. Check the line, not the agent

If the sound is crackly or drops out, ring your Lightspire number directly, then ring your business number. If only the diverted call sounds bad, the problem is the line between your phone and Lightspire. Tell us your carrier when you write in.

If that fixed it, you're done.
