Will callers know they're talking to AI?
Your agent doesn't start the call by saying it's AI. But it never pretends to be a person: if a caller asks, it tells them it's an AI assistant for your business.
What callers hear first
Unless you write your own, the greeting is your business name and your agent's name, then a recording notice:
Thanks for calling Willow Hair Studio, this is Mia. Calls are recorded. How can I help you today?
"Calls are recorded." is always added, before the question at the end. If your own greeting already mentions recording, it isn't added twice.
If a caller asks "Are you a real person?"
Your agent answers honestly. In the example above, Mia says something like "I'm Mia, an AI assistant for Willow Hair Studio," and carries on helping.
If you'd rather tell every caller up front
Put it in the greeting. Open Agent, then the Voice and greeting tab, and type it into Greeting. For example:
Thanks for calling Willow Hair Studio, this is Mia, the salon's AI assistant. How can I help?
Press Save changes. It's used from the next call, and the recording notice is still added. See Choose your agent's voice and greeting.
When a caller wants a person
Turn on transfers and your agent puts callers through when they ask for someone. Open Agent, then Transfers, switch on Put callers through to a person, add the Number to transfer to, and choose When to transfer: During opening hours or Any time. See Put callers through to a person.
Talking time stops counting once the call is put through to a person.
Recording and the law
Each business is responsible for telling its own callers that calls are recorded, where the law requires it. Recording laws differ by state and territory. The recording notice in the greeting is there to help with that. The privacy policy has the details, under Call recording.
